Being There’s staff picks their favourites of the month.

Shel Desormeaux’s 5:

1) Being There Magazine – Yeah, this is only our first issue. But when your editor gives you the go ahead to show up at meetings naked, you know you’re onto a good thing.

2) R.E.M. - Their new album, Around the Sun, will be released October 4th. They’re touring again. I’ve registered to purchase tickets through the fan club. I’m looking ahead here, but damn, I’m a happy gal.

3) Kids – I’ve been surrounded by them lately. And damn it if they aren’t teaching me more about everything than anything I’ve ever paid for (I’m only talking about school here, folks. Stay with me).  They’re a gas. I still don’t want to give birth to any, but shoot, they’re fun.

4) My iPod – Much has been made of this little doo-dad over the past year or so, but amidst the hype my love has not waned. And at 3 am, when you can’t sleep and you can’t find a lighter but you don’t want to turn on the light, it is only the sweetest little beacon.

5)
Ben Affleck – That dude makes some the crappiest movies. He dates some of the weirdest women. He was in my face for months and I wanted to slap him silly. But he’s single again, even more self-deprecating than before and a few days ago I realized that he won’t do any of that silly shit again and it’s safe to love him for just being Ben Affleck.

1) Menmnoch the Devil by Anne Rice
2) Tennis
