Superman star Christopher Reeve has died at the age of 52 of heart failure. The actor was paralyzed in 1995 due to a spinal cord injury that almost killed him. Since then, he had been an advocate for stem cell and spinal cord research.

According to Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts has beaten throat cancer. The drummer, who has been a member of The Rolling Stones since their formation in 1963, was diagnosed with cancer over four months ago and is currently recuperating in England. The Stones are also reported to be readying a new live album of their Forty Licks tour.

On October 27th, Joni Mitchell will recieve an honorary doctorate from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. To coincide with this occasion, the Faculty of Music at the university will host a one-day symposium, exploring the music and art of Joni Mitchell.

Actor Jamie Foxx, who does not sing or play the piano in the forthcoming Ray Charles biopic Ray, has signed a record deal with J Records. His first album, due in 2005, is expected to be comprised of contemporary R&B. Foxx is no stranger to music. His first album, 1994’s Peep This cracked the Billboard 200.

Capitol Records will issue a box set entitled The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1 on November 16th. The collection will mark the first time the Beatles’ early U.S. albums (which were different than the UK albums currently available on CD) see a CD release. The albums included (in remastered mono and stereo versions) are: Meet The Beatles, The Beatles’ Second Album, Something New, and Beatles ’65.
