As I sit down to put the finishing touches on the 4th issue of Being There Magazine, I can definitely say I feel a sense of accomplishment. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over four months since I assembled the Being There team, some of the most determined and hard-working people I could have ever hoped for. The work that we have done and the response we have gotten has exceeded even my highest expectations. I am proud to devote most of my free time to making it work.
We’re not done yet, but I am optimistic and happy with where we stand at the end of our first quarter.
In just four months, Being There has built up record label and film distribution contacts, conducted interviews with musicians both signed and unsigned, and developed an audience of several thousand. The feedback has been very positive, and while we must recognize that we still have a lot of work to do before we stack up against the competition, we are confident that we will get there soon.
I am particularly proud of this month’s interview with Jolie Holland. We had set out to interview Holland before our first issue had even been posted, and our contact at Epitaph Canada was extremely helpful in nailing down the interview for us (thanks Keith!).
Where will Being There be in six months, a year? Who knows. But one thing is certain: we are one excited bunch.
